Birth and Baby Class
About the Instructor
Cheryl T. Orengo - I have been a birth and parenting educator for 35 years. I was a birth doula for 34 years, a postpartum doula for 7 years and a DONA doula trainer for 17 years. A year ago I retired as a doula to care for my baby granddaughter while my midwife daughter, below, is working. I usually teach a childbirth and parenting class at Biltmore OB-GYN one Saturday each month, however, I am now teaching the class virtually.
I taught a full class the night of 9/11/01 and all of those students completed the entire series which at that time was 8 classes, so teaching this virtual class during the Covid-19 pandemic feels similar. Then and now the parents-to-be want their pregnancy, birth and newborn period to be as normal as possible.
I retired from a 35 year career as a Public Health Educator specializing in Maternal/Child Health a few years ago. I love working with moms, dads and babies and use my years of experience as a doula, doula trainer, childbirth educator and parent educator to teach expectant parents so they can have the easiest and most joyous birth possible as well as a peaceful experience with their newborn.
Call Cheryl - 828-776-3327 for more information about my current virtual class.
I couldn't resist adding this photo of me (above) holding my little granddaughter, my first! When I first started caring for her the summer of 2018 and a recent photo at age 2.
Below is a photo of her mom, my daughter Lauren, a CNM (nurse midwife) now working part-time in Hickory and Catawba Hospital with a midwife group.
Debra was my doula partner and a dear friend. We both decided to retire as doulas but have many wonderful memories from our years of working as doulas.
